Description

Help us celebrate our golden anniversary with a day full of live jazz! Four bands and a jam session, lunch, and a great dance floor! The PRJC plans to celebrate its golden anniversary in September with a veritable extravaganza. There will be 4 bands, the first 2 performing one set each and the latter 2 performing two sets each: 11:00 a.m. The Capital Focus Jazz Band 12:15 p.m. Dave Robinson’s Old Timers 1:30 p.m. Mike Flaherty’s Dixieland Direct 3:45 p.m. Jim Ritter’s Creole Gumbo Jazz Band 6:00 p.m. Time permitting, there will also be a, hour-long jam session after the bands have all performed. BBQ and fixings are included in ticket prices, and the hall has a full-service cash bar. Rosensteel Hall will be festooned with all sorts of decorations to commemorate the occasion. Prizes will be awarded to attendees who are among the longest-tenured PRJC members and, yes, we do have quite a few members around who go back to the year of the club’s inception ‘way back in 1971. Proclamations from elected officials in the DMV will also be read to the audience by many of my fellow bandmates as not too many organizations like ours have lasted for 50 years – a truly momentous achievement! The Knights of Columbus Rosensteel Hall is easily accessible - just a few blocks from Forest Glen metro, and also right off of the beltway and street and free lot parking. There is plenty of table seating and a spacious dance floor. $30 per person; PRJC Members discounted to $25; students $10 with ID.  The Potomac River Jazz Club is a nonprofit society whose purpose is to preserve, encourage and promote the playing and appreciation of traditional jazz. On our Web site you’ll find information about trad jazz happenings in the Washington-Baltimore area, about our organization, about our affiliated jazz bands, about jazz history, and about many other items of interest to jazz fans. And be sure to check out what PRJC is doing to encourage young musicians to play traditional jazz with the Capital Focus Youth Jazz Band.
