Description

Rolling in the New Year with Jews on Bikes. Get ready, we're rolling into our seventh season of Jewish biking. Grab your friends and get ready to ride through the streets of our nation's capital on Wednesday, September 8th, as we roll in the new year with a Taschlich Ride. Join Rabbis Nora and Ilana from Sixth and I and Gather DC for tashlich, a cathartic tradition for the Jewish New Year in which we toss pieces of old bread into a body of water to symbolically cast away regrets and disappointments from the past year. We'll gather starting around 4:45, with wheels up at 5 to make it in time for the start of the ceremony at 5:30. Final location will be given after registration. Please also register for ceremony at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeB1bJaG9_EwA9-fAg46rHnmXn0A7qArO0yKS-0ln58eEVeZQ/viewform if you plan to attend. Afterwards, we can happy hour it up to commit more sins to atone for on Yom Kippur. Don't own a bike? No Problem! The start and end points are near multiple Cap Bikeshare docks, and we'll make sure you won't break the 30 minute limit. --- This slow, social ride for Generations Z, Y, and X is suitable for cyclists of all levels. It's the perfect way to make new friends, get comfortable with city riding, find new biking buddies -- or just to "do Jewish" in a whole new way. We'll explore about 5ish miles of DC -- parts you may not see every day (or you'll see them in a whole new way). And as always, it's FREE! (Whoop!) Questions? Interested in serving as a ride marshall or helping to plan other rides? Don't hesitate to reach out: [email protected]. --- If you're joining us for the ride, please bring: A helmet to protect your noggin (it's required... we really like your face) Bike lights to see the road and your friends, and so the cars can see you A bike lock for after the ride Quick note on safety: Because this is a community-organized and lay-led event, every rider is responsible for his or her own safety and the organizers are not liable for any injuries that occur before, during or after the ride. By registering for this event, you agree to those terms. If you have any questions about bike safety, please don't hesitate to reach out. We want to make sure this is a fun, safe, and meaningful experience for everyone!
