We will be using reclaimed hardwoods to build an heirloom piece of furniture. Using hand tools and power tools.
Live edged slabs of wood are really fun to work with. I will help you built a relationship with the wood, by reading wood grain and identifying defects. We can design your table or bench in relation with the way the wood flows, making it both beautiful and functional.
August 30th 6:00pm- 9:30pm We will be designing and selecting the wood. Making a cut list and rough cutting out the parts.
September 2nd 9:00am-4:00pm Lunch at 12:00 We will plane down the wood, assemble, sanding/scraping and apply the finish.
Vegetarian Lunch will be provided, better then organic, veggies from the garden.
The following photos are just an example. You should come to the class with a sketch and/or some measurements of the piece of furniture you want to create. The measurements for the piece below is 55" X 17" X 17" Market Value 800.00
I know this is a big project and I want it to be a fun rewarding experience for you. If you need help with design, want to talk about the kinds of wood available or just have questions. Please get in touch with me.
This slab of elm was burned in a fire 10 years ago. It sure cleaned up well!
Cutting in the "butterflies"
I finished this bench with Teak Oil, so that it can be an outside bench.
