Description

Folklorico Juvenil Danzantes Unidos de Vacaville will celebrate Fiesta Days on Sept. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pena Adobe Park. “They are really excited to get together and share their culture with the community,” said Sandra Trujillo, coordinator of the seven-year-old group. Joining them will be Francisco Pulido, from Rancho El Zapotillo in Dixon, and his horse Pirate. Pulido will be demonstrating his roping and riding skills in a one-hour show for visitors and give rides on Pirate. Pulido is looking forward to the event saying He “really likes teaching people about horses, roping and riding.” Folklorico Juvenil is comprised of talented middle school and high school students who will perform traditional dances from different regions of Mexico, according to Trujillo. The group has performed not only across Solano County, but all across California. The Sept. 4 event is being held in conjunction with the week-long Vacaville Fiesta Days and is honoring National Hispanic Heritage Month. Churro My Heart, a Fairfield-based business which has been seen at the Fairfield Farmers’ Markets, will be offering sweet churros to visitors. The park is also home to the Mowers-Goheen Museum, with its artifacts from the area’s settlement, as well as the Willis Linn Jepson Memorial Garden and the Indian Council Ground. Volunteers will offer tours of the museum, the adobe and the grounds. The Pena Adobe is one of the existing oldest structures in Solano County, dating back to 1842, when the Juan Felipe Pena and Manuel Vaca families settled in Vacaville more than 175 years ago. The Pena Adobe Regional Park is located in picturesque Lagoon Valley off of Interstate 80 4699 Pena Adobe Road. The Pena Adobe Historical Society can be reached at 1-707-447-0518 or by e-mail at [email protected]. The volunteer led Peña Adobe Historical Society opens the doors of the Peña Adobe and the Mowers-Goheen Museum the first Saturday of each month February thru December from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or by appointment free of charge to the community.  If you have an interest in local history, call us at (707) 447-0518 or e-mail us at [email protected]
