FRAMINGHAM, MA — The public will be able to take a tour of the new Pelham Lifelong Learning Center, which opened on January. The Sept. 9 tour will feature music, food and remarks by local officials. Here's more from a Pelham Lifelong Learning Center press release: An Open-house for the Pelham Lifelong Learning Center will take place on Sept. 9 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the center's 8,150 square-foot, state of the art building, located at 103 2nd St. in Framingham. The event will feature live music, a tour of the center, food and remarks by the Honorable Mayor Yvonne Spicer, President of the Pelham Board, Bob Engler, local dignitaries, staff and program participants. The festivities will be set up in a spacious, outdoor environment. Unique to Framingham, the learning center will offer residents educational programs, such as English classes, musical instruments and art lessons, homework assistance, farmers market and healthy nutrition classes, information and referral, computer classes, resume assistance, job search assistance, and much more. The center also serves as the host site to programs in partnership with Discovering Hidden Gems, Intercultural Family Support Center, Jewish Family Services, Mass Hire, Advocates and Framingham Police Department just to name a few. Located in Pelham Apartments, a Corcoran Management community of affordable housing to 540 families in south Framingham, the center will have a tremendous impact on the residents of Pelham Apartments and neighbors in that we will work collaboratively with local higher education institutions and other community partners to increase college enrollment, create a safe and viable community, and increase citizen civic engagement and participation. "This building is the heart of the community" architect John Winslow told the planning board back in 2017. "It was designed as a special building that reaches out to the entire community. It's a place for kids and adults to come. It's an open space, and we'd like to think that it's celebrating itself and the community." The learning center's mission is "To expand our community engagement and strengthen our collaboration with community partners in order to improve access to services, resources and opportunities to help residents achieve their individual and family life goals." The Pelham Lifelong Learning Center opened in January of 2020. The Pelham Lifelong Learning Center will make an even greater difference to the families in Pelham Apartments. Mayra Latorre, also a resident, said she looks forward to learning more about computers with the new equipment and how to use her newly purchased laptop. She looks forward to enrolling in the many new classes the learning center offers. The event is open to the public. Please RSVP by Sept. 2, by emailing Gianna Rodriguez, Administrative Assistant at [email protected].
