GREENFIELD, WI — The longtime coach for Greenfield High School's softball team, Jack Miller, has decided to retire, Greenfield School District said.
Alongside his teams, Miller won 12 Conference and 18 Regional Championships, went to eight Sectional Finals, and qualified for three WIAA State Tournaments since his start in 1991.
"These team accomplishments made the GHS Softball Program one of the most successful programs in school history," the District said in a statement on Facebook.
Miller has been recognized as one of the top coaches in the area and in 2021 was inducted into the Wisconsin Fast Pitch Softball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
"Coach Miller taught our young women about softball but more importantly about life, being a good teammate, and how to be women of character," Greenfield School District Superintendent Lisa Elliot said. "There are few coaches who have dedicated their lives to their student-athletes over that amount of time."
The final game record that Miller will retire with: 512-191, according to the district. Miller will be recognized at a Greenfield School Board meeting Oct. 11.
"Coach Jack Miller was an invaluable contributor to the entire GHS Athletic Department, his expertise, dedication, humbleness and honest approach to athletics will be sorely missed and forever cherished by all those who had the opportunity to play for, compete against and work alongside Coach Miller," said Trent Lower, athletic director for Greenfield High School.
