WEST HAVEN, CT — Steven Mullins, a member of the West Haven planning and zoning commission, has withdrawn his name from contention for mayor. Mullins made the announcement on his Facebook page Thursday. "Late (Wednesday) afternoon," he wrote, "I withdrew my name from the race for Mayor of the City of West Haven, due to an error on my part on a petition sheet submitted to the Registrar last week. "I have spent my entire life in support of this City and what she has to offer her residents. I went away to college, but came back and chose to raise my children in this great and wonderful community." This leaves Barry Lee Cohen, a City Council member representing the 10th District, as the lone Republican running. "Per my prior meeting with him, Steve is always welcome on my team," Cohen said in a Facebook post. "We both share the same vision: make West Haven a place where families, senior citizens, veterans, and businesses can work live, and thrive. Over the years, we've both served our community with pride and love. This has not and will never change." In the Democratic primary, John Lewis will challenge incumbent mayor Nancy R. Rossi.
