Description
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — High school sophomores are encouraged to apply for a spot with the free Student Climate Change Institute. Hosted by the Howard County Conservancy, HCPSS and the Howard County Office of Community Sustainability, participating students will hear lectures from climate experts on topics exploring how climate change can impact public health, how environmental policy is made and more.
Participants also will work with experts and fellow students to consider solutions to global climate issues and grow as ambassadors to form initiatives in schools and communities against climate change. Students will participate in eight weekly sessions during the fall and will meet monthly during the spring to implement action projects.
Sessions will take place on the following Tuesdays from 6-7 p.m. and will be held online except where indicated:
October 19 – in-person session at the Howard County Conservancy (5-7 p.m.)October 26November 2November 9November 16November 30December 7December 14 – in-person session at the Howard County Conservancy Three sophomore students per high school will be chosen to participate and must commit to attending all sessions. Students must complete and submit all portions of the application for their school by 4 p.m. Sept. 28:
