WILLIAMSPORT, PA — The opening game of the Little League World Series started out well enough for Manchester Thursday, as Arlen Peyman drilled the second pitch from Honolulu's Ryan Keanu over the center field fence at Volunteer Stadium. From there, however, the team from the 50th state scored four runs in the second inning and four more in the fourth to run away with a 9-1 victory.
Manchester managed just one base hit following Peyman's home run, a fourth-inning single by Ryan Gorman.
In the double-elimination tournament, the Connecticut squad will face the loser of Thursday night's game between Toms River, New Jersey and Hastings, Nebraska in an elimination game Saturday at Lamade Stadium. Game time is slated for 3 p.m., and the contest will be broadcast on ABC.
