Description

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden Town Council member Brad Mcdowall did not receive enough signatures to appear on the ballot in September as a candidate for mayor, local media report. Macdowall's name is not on the Connecticut Secretary of State's website for the Democratic primary September 19. The New Haven Independent reports Macdowall fell short of the required number of signatures by 150. "We are exploring our legal options but to be frank, the clock is ticking on this and I don't know that we will be able to rectify it by the time ballots are printed on Monday," Macdowall wrote on his campaign Facebook page. Registrar of Voters Rose Mentone told the New Haven Independent that more than 150 of the signatures Macdowall gathered were invalid. Lauren Garrett, incumbent mayor Curt Balzano Leng, and Peter Cyr remain on the ballot for mayor. Garrett won the Hamden Democratic Party's nomination in late July. The Independent and the New Haven Register also report two Democrats running for Legislative Council did not collect enough valid signatures: Oscar Bolanos, who was seeking to represent the 3rd district, and Montrel Morrison, who was seeking the 5th district.
