A 37-year-old man is being treated in Louisville Thursday after what fire investigators say was a possible suicide attempt.
Just before midnight on Wednesday, neighbors in the Omega Apartment complex heard a smoke detector sounding and saw smoke seeping from a fellow resident's door.
According to a press release, the neighbors beat on the door to check on the person inside. Getting the door open, a neighbor used a fire extinguisher to put out some of the flames.
Firefighters arrived to find the bedroom on fire with the man inside. Officials rescued the man and rendered aid until an ambulance arrived.
The rest of the 14 apartments were not damaged by the blaze but were affected by smoke. After monitoring the spaces for carbon monoxide, residents were allowed to return.
