Here are the top stories today in Sacramento: Sacramento State has named its new chief of police, succeeding Mark Iwasa, who retired in July after nearly 10 years as chief. Chet Madison Jr. is a 27-year law enforcement veteran who most recently was a chief deputy in the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. He was hired at Sacramento State after a nationwide search led by a committee of students, faculty, and staff. "Being genuine, open, honest, and candid is important in this day and age, especially with law enforcement," Madison said. Seems like a good philosophy to me. (ABC10)Both suspect and victim have been identified and an arrest has been made in the case of the 19-year-old that was shot by a man in another car at the intersection of Elsie Avenue and Stockton Boulevard in South Sacramento on Monday night. The victim – identified as 20-year-old Tyree Xavier Scott - was found by police with a "catastrophic" gunshot wound and rushed to an area hospital where he later died. The sheriff's office announced that they had identified and arrested Joshua Lee Atkinson in connection to Scott's killing. No motive was given. (CBS Sacramento) If you're immune-compromised, you may be eligible to receive a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. According to a statement by Sutter Health, you may qualify for a booster shot if you are moderately to severely immunocompromised and you received your second dose of Pfizer or Moderna more than 28 days ago.
