Orland Park Approves 211 Winter And Spring Recreation Programs

By Jon DePaolis, Richard Free Press: ORLAND PARK, Ill. — The Village of Orland Park Board of Trustees has approved its recreation department offerings for the winter/spring 2022 season. The board members voted 7-0 Monday, Aug. 16, to green light a total of 211 programs, including: 46 fitness classes; six cultural programs; 17 dance programs; 47 athletic programs; 18 enrichment programs; 17 youth special interest programs; 16 museum programs; 29 special recreation programs; and eight special events. "In 2019, we had 8,339 registrations," said Recreation and Parks Director Ray Piattoni. "We didn't summarize 2020, just because of COVID. In 2021, year-to-date, we are about half that — 4,453 registrations." Piattoni said in 2022, the Village hopes to add special events such as a holiday festival, tree lighting and parade, as well as to bring back the Cinderella's Ball and Easter Egg Hunt. They also hope to add: a farm-to-table dinner at Stellwagen Farm; a paint-and-sip event at the farm; a Pedal in the Park Earth Day Celebration; an Uncorked event with wine, chocolate, meat and cheese; a winter tea tasting at the John Humphrey House; and a pub crawl event. "We are offering all of these things … to use as a hallmark to enhance the quality of life for our residents," he told the board members. The Village Board members also voted 7-0 to reject the bid for proposed soffit replacements at the Franklin Loebe Recreation Center, Civic Center and Village Hall. "It was much higher than we had anticipated," Mayor Keith Pekau said. "I'm assuming that has a lot to do with the supply chain for building materials, as well as the fact that a lot of the companies can't find employees, so they are oversold with work." Pekau added that the replacements were not critical emergency repairs, "so we can push them off a year."
