MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester police have arrested a 25-year-old mother of a 1-year-old after police said the child was overdosing on methadone. On July 26, Manchester police were contacted by the Stoughton MA Police, who informed them that a child had overdosed and it was believed to have originated in Manchester. Police said the people who were with the child told police that they had taken the child to Ikea in Stoughton to give the mother a break. While there, they noticed that the child was lethargic. The child's breathing slowed and the couple brought the child to a local hospital. The child was ultimately med-flighted to Boston Children's Hospital and tested positive for methadone. Through their investigation, police learned the child had ingested the methadone prior to leaving for Stoughton. Warrants were issued, for the child's mother, Brianna Lavoie, and 34-year-old Derrick Richards Lewis, both of Manchester. Lavoie was arrested on Wednesday, and charged with criminal liability to 1st-degree assault, reckless conduct (Felony), possession of a controlled drug, and endangering the welfare of a child. Lewis is still wanted by Manchester Police. MPD Spokesperson Heather Hamel said that Lewis will also face criminal liability to 1st-degree assault, reckless conduct (Felony), possession of a controlled drug, and endangering the welfare of a child. If you have any information about Lewis' whereabouts you are asked to call Manchester Police at 603-668-8711. You can also remain anonymous and call the Manchester Crimeline at 603-624-4040.
