NEWARK, CA — The Newark Police Department will hold a Citizen Police Academy from Sept. 15 through Nov. 17. Sign-ups are open now, and the deadline to apply is next Wednesday at 5 p.m.⁠ "The Newark Police Department's philosophy of community oriented policing involves increasing awareness of the importance of an effective police–community partnership that includes open and honest communication," the department said on social media.
