Description

Press release from the City of Champaign: August 18, 2021 A community survey on allowing Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) in Champaign is now open to the public. ADUs are small secondary homes that many communities permit in backyards, however, they are not currently permitted in Champaign. ADUs can serve community benefits such as providing independent living for aging or disabled family members or just provide a more affordable rental option for residents in neighborhoods. ADUs are small structures that meet building codes and could be either detached from the house or attached to the main home. The early response to the survey has shown there is much interest in this topic. Following the survey, City Staff will study the feasibility of allowing ADUs and present options to the City Council later this Fall. Please provide your input on allowing ADUs in Champaign by taking this QUICK survey (includes a few easy introduction slides). The survey closes September 30, 2021 This press release was produced by the City of Champaign. The views expressed here are the author's own.
