Landscape Maintenance Worker Regis University R001647 Northwest Denver Campus Position Type:Staff Scheduled Weekly Hours:40 Requested Start Date for this Position:06/04/2021 - 14 days to go Campus Location:Northwest Denver Campus Full-time or Part-time:Full time Job Summary:The purpose of this position is to provide and maintain a safe and aesthetically pleasing outdoor environment for the Regis community. This is accomplished by performing all aspects of Landscape Maintenance. Which includes maintenance of all hardscaped areas (concrete and asphalt surfaces) and landscaped areas (turf, trees, shrubs, perennials and annual flowers) under various weather conditions. Using snow removal machinery, hand tools, ice-melt and sand, maintain all hard-scape surfaces in a condition that is clear of all snow and ice, and in a manner that is safe and efficient to preserve all structures, objects, and plant life. To achieve this, snow and ice removal tasks must occur at all hours of the day, night, weekdays, weekends, and holidays during and after a storm. 15% 2. Using various riding mowers, push mowers and string trimmers, mow all grass surfaces when assigned, at the assigned height, and according to the Mowing Schedule in a manner that is safe and efficient to preserving all structures, objects, plant life and pedestrians. 32% 3. Maintain the health, beauty, and safety of landscaped areas (grass, trees, shrubs, flowers) by performing all aspects of landscape maintenance, as assigned. This shall include but will not be limited to: pulling weeds, removal and composting of leaves, fertilization, chemical applications, filling holes in grass, removing dead flowers and plants, watering, pruning shrubs, preparation for and laying of sod when needed. 15% 4. Daily pick up and removal of all pieces of trash, paper, glass and all other forms of debris from all hard-scaped and landscaped surfaces as assigned. 10% 5. Pruning of trees and shrubs as assigned, to maintain the health and beauty of the plant material as well as the safety of the outdoor environment. This shall be accomplished by utilizing current pruning standards. The use of proper pruning equipment is required. These shall include pruning shears, loppers, pruning saws, chainsaws and various other tools common to the industry. The use of appropriate safety equipment and safety standards are required. 5% 6. The use of various hand tools and machinery to prepare for an install all types of plant material in accordance to the most current planting procedures available. To replace dead or missing plant material as well as to upgrade the campus landscape. Preparation may include constructing planter boxes and/or retaining walls. 10% 7. To perform daily preventative maintenance on machinery before, during and after use by checking and maintaining all fluid levels, belts, tire pressure, grease zerks, tightening of bolts and sharpening of blades as required to better maintain the equipment. 5% Other: Performs related duties as necessary to support the Regis Mission. 8. To be available to assist with scheduled events as assigned. To be available to assist in the event of an emergency. This may include assisting personnel responsible in another trade for the trade. 9. Maintain a safe and clean appearance to all parking lots and roadways by patching holes, setting parking blocks, and sweeping as assigned. 10. Assist the Irrigation Technician as assigned. 11. Assist the Mechanic as assigned. 12. Perform related duties as necessary to support the Regis mission. Minimum Requirements: Experience: One year experience in landscape maintenance, gardening, nursery or other work involving operation of machinery common to the industry: loader, riding mowers, push mowers, string-trimmers, chainsaw, snow plows, edger, sprayer, rototiller, and hand tools. Operation of compatible machinery in other industry (ies) or trades can be substituted for landscape machinery experience. SKILLS: (Psychomotor activities needed to perform tasks.) Basic landscape maintenance skills with the ability to operate or be trained to operate all machinery and tools common to the industry. Problem solving skills and sound judgement. To be able to work in all kinds of weather conditions, temperature extremes, and various heights. Constant high physical intensity and duration. KNOWLEDGE: (Body of and level of information necessary to perform a duty.) Can recognize the potential for a hazard and report it. General knowledge of landscape maintenance. Certified or certifiable in herbicide and/or pesticide application. ABILITIES: (Application of knowledge, e.g., intensity, duration, frequency, of mental capabilities needed to perform tasks.) To learn the job safely and effectively, (it takes at least one full year). Follow through and carry-out of assigned task. Effective communication orally and in writing.
