67% of the hand guns used in murders are stolen from honest people who own hand guns for their own personal protection. 67% of the handguns used in gang violence are stolen from people just like you and me. The odds of ever needing a handgun to 'protect' yourself in a crisis are almost nil. The odds of you accidentally shooting yourself or others with that gun are far higher than you ever needing it to protect yourself. The odds of a child in your family getting ahold of that weapon are much higher than the odds that you will ever need it for self defense. The odds of your gun being stolen,ken from you are higher than then odds that you will ever need it for self defense. I believe 100% in the second amendment. I am not opposed to people owning guns. The reality is, handguns are a false sense of security. Handguns make people who feel vulnerable feel safer. But the facts indicate that people who own handguns put themselves and others at higher risk than they do of increasing safety. A can of quality bear spray is equally effective at thwarting an intruder. The potency of bear spray is 8x stronger than pepper spry intended for humans. Bear spray releases a much larger stream and travels up to 30 feet away. any human hit with bear spray will be debilitated for 10-15 minutes min. Most importantly. Many people (even gun experts) have a tendency to hesitate when faced with the choice to shoot a criminal or not. No person will hesitate with bear spray because it is non lethal. If bear spray can stop a 1200lb charging grizzly, it can stop a crack head breaking into my home. I keep my riffles locked up, safe from the curious hands of my grandkids. I do not own handguns. There is a responsibility to keep people safe the comes with gun ownership. Irresponsible gun owners are just as much the problem as criminals with guns.
