Volunteer Trail Day to repair hiking trail and climbing staging areas in the Der Zerkle, Mallory Cave Trail complex
The Flatirons Climbing Council (FCC) in association with City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks (OSMP) will be hosting a volunteer trail day on Saturday, September 11 to repair sections of the Mallory Cave Trail and climbing staging areas in around Der Zerkle. This is part of a larger project being executed by the Boulder Climbing Community's trail crew.
The continued heavy use of the Mallory Cave requires regular maintenance as this is the third time we have a trail project in this area in past ten years.
The meeting point will be at the NCAR parking lot from 8:00am onwards. An FCC shirt will be handed out to all volunteers and lunch will also be provided. We recommend that everyone bring closed toe footwear and have appropriate clothing for conditions (sun/rain, etc.). Work gloves and safety glasses are also recommended for those that have them. The trail work will encompass the use of landscaping tools, moving of rocks and dirt and other typical activities associated with trail building and repairs. Work will be supervised by OSMP's professional trail crew and all equipment and tools will be provided by OSMP.
In existence since the late 1990's the FCC is a local non-profit organization with three main areas of activity:
- advocating for climber access in the Flatirons
- evironmental stewardship and
- education/outreach.
