You are invited to write poetry, pick out books in our book giveaway, and purchase the latest 826 Boston student-authored publications. Please note: Masks will be required for anyone attending this event. On Thursday, August 26 (8/26), 826 Boston welcomes you to our writing center at 3035 Washington Street in Egleston Square, Roxbury, to celebrate 826 Day. Stop by anytime from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM to write poetry, pick up new books, and explore the latest 826 Boston student-authored publications. From stories of self-identity in How We May Appear, to We Hope You’ll Visit, a guide to historic landmarks in Dorchester, there is a lot to excite you for the school year ahead! Play games, read the latest publications by young writers, and pick up some free books! Families can fill out their after-school tutoring paperwork, volunteers can get back into the school year groove, and everyone can meet 826 Boston’s new service members and staff. This event is free and open to the public. Whether you’re a student, parent, volunteer, teacher, partner, supporter, or a complete stranger, we look forward to seeing you. 826 Boston is a nonprofit youth writing and publishing organization that empowers traditionally underserved students ages 6-18 to find their voices, tell their stories, and gain communication skills to succeed in school and in life. Our services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. With this understanding in mind, we provide after-school tutoring, field trips, creative writing workshops, in-school tutoring, help for English Language Learners, and in-depth publishing projects. Each of our free programs seeks to empower students to express their ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in their individual voices.
