Description

El Paseo Garden is excited to offer our first outdoor adult drawing class this summer! Drawing outside offers a way to unplug, discover the garden, and use direct observation to express what inspires you in the moment. We often pass by incredible forms in nature without taking the time to notice, reflect, and appreciate the wonders of public green space in our community. This class will provide participants an opportunity to explore approaches to drawing outdoors led by weekly prompts. We will focus on local plant and wildlife (and beyond) at El Paseo while learning about basic approaches to observational drawing. Types of outdoor activities will include: walking, looking, sitting, drawing with wet and dry media, journaling, sharing and connecting with other members of the community, and engaging with wildlife apps Drawing Classes 18 years of age and up Wednesdays June 9th to September 8th 6 pm to 7:30 pm $5 suggested donation. No one gets turned away for lack of funds. All classes are weather permitting. Contact Kate Perryman for cancellations or information. [email protected] What to Bring Bring your sketch books and preferred medium. However clipboards with drawing paper and pencils/charcoal will be provided. Be sure to bring water and bug spray. COVID Notes & Guidelines While the CDC has recommended relaxed guidelines as more people are getting vaccinated, the garden encourages you to wear your mask, or continue maintaining your distance while participating in garden events.**If you are someone in your household is sick, please stay home** El Paseo Community Garden is in the Pilsen neighborhood and was founded as Growing Station in 2009. Our garden is located on a former brownfield site and was constructed during the first phase of the rails to trails project “El Paseo”. We are planning a third expansion for a total area of an acre. The garden sits along the public path and maintains a monarch butterfly prairie on one side and raised beds on the other. We offer private allotment beds and participation in free shared beds. The garden serves as a public green space for the neighborhood, especially for their neighbors in the adjacent senior living and affordable housing apartments. El Paseo garden brings a diverse crowd of people together through our monthly community events, including: volunteer days, educational gardening workshops, potluck parties, annual children’s harvest festival, yoga series, and meditation series. Our goal is to Empower through Nature.
