Description

MCASD presents the work of American sculptor Beverly Pepper at Westfield UTC & invites you to make your own land art mobile! MCASD invites you to enjoy another Family ArtLAB: Land Art For Kids. If you are looking for an outdoor activity this summer, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) recommends Land Art. This is a great way to get children outside and away from their screens. All you need is to find some natural materials such as driftwood, logs, leaves, pine cones, shells, pebbles, sand, and rocks to name a few. In this particular ArtLab we will learn how to make a Land Art Mobile made with leaves, driftwood, twine, thread and copper foil. (included in your kit) A Land Art mobile is a type of sculpture that is created with items that come from nature. Its delicate components are suspended in the air and move in response to air currents. Have fun, be creative, and please share your finished creations by tagging @mcasandiego and @WestfieldUTC.  About the Artist: After beginning her artistic career as a painter, Beverly Pepper was known from the 1960’s on as a sculptor of iron, steel, earth and stone, often displayed outdoors. Her earlier pieces were carved out of fallen trees from her garden. She also built architectural forms directly on the earth, utilizing industrial materials with natural elements like pressed earth or stone. We draw inspiration for this ArtLab from the materials and colors used by Beverly Pepper in her Land Art sculptures. EVENT DETAILS Visit Family ArtLAB anytime between 11am-3pm to pick up your art kit. Pick-up will be located near Tocaya Modern Mexican.
