OAK CREEK, WI — The Oak Creek Common Council updated ordinances to allow to-go liquor from bars, honored a local Eagle Scout with a Council Proclamation, and more at its meeting Tuesday. Here is a roundup of anything noteworthy that took place at the Aug. 17 Oak Creek Common Council meeting: Eagle Scout HonoredEagle Scout Spencer Barribeau was honored with a Council Proclamation. Barribeau received the title on Aug. 1 for planning landscaping work at the Oak Creek Historical Society, according to the proclamation. "The Mayor and Common Council of the City of Oak Creek hereby extend their congratulations to Eagle Scout Spencer Barribeau for having an Eagle Scout Award conferred upon him by the Boy Scouts of America," the proclamation said. Barribeau secured funding, donations and 34 volunteers for a project that repaired pathways and improved benches at the Oak Creek Historical Society, according to the proclamation. Alcohol To-GoSince Wisconsin passed this into law in March, restaurants have been able to sell cocktails, wine and other drinks to-go. The legislation was passed in light of pandemic restrictions, allowing liquor license holders to sell their drinks in a non-original but sealed container to-go. It was designed as a measure to bolster local restaurant sales, and was a tool for taps and bars across the state, The Wisconsin State Journal reported. So long as a drink has a tamper-evident seal, restaurants and bars are able to serve drinks for at-home or off-premise consumption. The Oak Creek Common Council amended its own ordinances at Tuesday's meeting to reflect the recent state law change. When the state law was originally passed, all municipalities had to observe it. Only now are Oak Creek's written ordinances catching up to the state law.
