Description
The Alzheimer's Association invites New Yorkers to join the fight to end Alzheimer's by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® this fall. The Walk to End Alzheimer's takes place is communities across the country and is the world's largest event to raise funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research. New York City has four walks to choose from: Cadman Plaza Park, Brooklyn: September 19, 2021 Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens: October 2, 2021 College of Staten Island: October 9, 2021 South Street Seaport, Manhattan: October 23, 2021 While the Alzheimer's Association is moving forward with plans to host the Walk to End Alzheimer's in person, the health and safety of participants, staff and volunteers remain its top priorities. Each walk event will follow federal and New York State guidelines and have safety protocols including contactless registration, hand sanitizing stations and more. The Alzheimer's Association also has options if you want to participate online or from your own neighborhood. Joanne Luciano, vice president of development at the Alzheimer's Association, New York City Chapter, says, "The enthusiasm our community in New York City shows for the Walk to End Alzheimer's is inspiring. At each walk, we see people impacted by this disease and those who want to help coming together for a cure. The funds walkers raise are critical to our mission to end Alzheimer's, and we are humbled by the support." More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease – a leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 11 million family members and friends provide care to people living with Alzheimer's and other dementias. At the Walk to End Alzheimer's, participants support all those affected by Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia. The Alzheimer's Association uses the funds raised to provide free care and support services to families while also advancing critical research.
