NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle native Don McLean has been honored with the 2,7000th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in a star-studded ceremony, but his Sound Shore ties at home remain in the forefront. In 2014, the musician who gave the world "American Pie" was recognized with a place on the New Rochelle Walk of Fame on Library Green. McLean is also featured in a new mural on Division Street curated by Street Art for Mankind. The performer's star on the West Coast was dedicated on Hollywood Boulevard. Fittingly, McClean's star was placed in front of a business famous for their pies. "Don McLean is part of our American music history and we are thrilled to be celebrating the 50th anniversary of his iconic song American Pie," Producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame Ana Martinez said. "How appropriate that his star will be placed in front of The Pie Hole Shop in honor of his storied career!" "Weird Al" Yankovic emceed the dedication ceremony. In 2015, one of McLean's four handwritten manuscripts of the lyrics to "American Pie" was auctioned by Christie's, selling for just over $1.2 million. The song is rumored to have been at least partially created at the New Rochelle watering hole now known as the Beechmont Tavern.
