Description
NEW HAVEN, CT —Just before 11 p.m. Tuesday, police got a Shotspotter alert for gunfire on Orchard Place, between Orchard and Charles streets.
When police got to the scene, they found a 25-year-old New Haven man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to Yale New Haven Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, New Haven police spokesperson Scott Shumway said.
When Shumway was asked on July 19 about the gun violence statistics so far this year, he said there had been 17 homicides and 67 non-fatal shootings. Less than a month later, another fatal shooting brings the homicide count to 18 and with 9 more shootings, the non-fatal count to 76.
In this current shooting, police are again asking that any witnesses who have not yet spoken with investigators call the police department's Investigative Services Division at 203-946-6304. Callers may remain anonymous or submit tips anonymously by calling 1-866-888-TIPS(8477), or text "NHPD plus your message" to 274637 (CRIMES).
