Description
Comedian Roxy Merari is headlining at the Screening Room Sunday, September 12 @ 7 pm. Presented by GrAttitude Productions. Roxy Merari is a Los Angeles native currently residing in Tucson, AZ. A lifelong comedy fan, she stood up at her first open mic at Laffs Comedy Café in January 2015 and like so many others, was instantly hooked. Armed with her production experience gained in L.A., she started Comedy at The Wench at the Surly Wench Pub, her favorite nightlife spot, in May of 2016. Since then, Comedy at The Wench has been an unflinchingly steady favorite for local comics and has hosted numerous touring features & headliners, such as Doug Stanhope, Olivia Grace, Trenton Davis, and many more. Roxy also hosts her show every Monday, honing her own comedy. She especially enjoys welcoming new comics who are just starting out and makes newbies and veteran comics alike feel fully welcome at Comedy at The Wench. Anyone behaving badly, however, may feel the sting of her quick wit, which helped her become Tucson’s first Roast Battle champion. Roxy enjoys producing as much as writing & performing; her distinctive and infectious laugh always fills the room during her shows. She loves to hear the audience laughing with her, but also enjoys the groans she elicits. She is one of the comics you’ll laugh as hard with off stage as on. Featured act Stephanie Lyonga-Farrington was born in Cameroon, Africa. At the age of sixteen, she moved to the United States and settled in the Chicagoland area. At the tender age of eighteen, Stephanie enlisted in the United States Army. Soon after enlisting, Stephanie and her Unit were deployed to Iraq in response to the September 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center. While serving, Stephanie met the love of her life and the two later married and had children. Stephanie’s one of a kind, energetic, in-your-face style is unparalleled. She brilliantly tells her story and her personal experiences as an African American woman in the United States. As an audience member, you will join Stephanie’s fascinating journey through her own words beginning with a young, immigrant youth to a soldier, wife and mother. Each and every story that Stephanie tells is hilarious and relatable to all. She captures the hearts of the audience during each and every of her performances. One thing is for sure, after Stephanie’s set, you will leave the room with your heart full, your cheek hurting and your stomach in stitches. Co-Feature Maria Bruggere is a stand-up comedian, writer, and host. In 2018, Maria left damp (yet beautiful) Portland, OR, Maria took her talents to Los Angeles. Maria has performed at clubs, festivals, featured at private events and Zoom up and down the West Coast. She’s the creator and host of Comedy n’ Chill and co-creator of Motorboatin’ Comedy. Maria is best known for her no-holds-barred takes on boobs and the female body through the eyes of men. The rest of the time she’s busy trying to embarrass her family on stage with as many relatable anecdotal jokes as possible. When Maria’s not on stage, she’s posting video content and snarky tweets across the internet. Her web series “Maria’s Problems” can be found on Instagram and YouTube. Jeff Williams. Comedian. Army Veteran. Prison Nurse. Husband. Father of 8. If this man doesn’t have a death wish, I don’t know who does. Come enjoy (and sometime cringe) at the hilarity that Jeff likes to call his life. Hosted by Tony Bruhn. Tony has been entertaining audiences far and wide across the United States. When asked to describe his brand of humor he was quoted as saying “whatever book me”. He uses observational humor mixed with biting criticism to show that there is nothing off limits. His dream is to tour the country making people laugh and while making living at what he loves doing most—standup comedy.
