MANASSAS, VA — The last 10 years have marked a dramatic shift in the demographic makeup of the United States, with a marked shrinkage of the white population and the rapid growth of the Hispanic/Latino community. These changes were reflected in the City of Manassas's population, which grew slightly to 42,772, up from 37,821 in 2010. The number of Manassas residents who were white alone dropped by 17.7 percent to 14,816 people. Now, white people in Manassas account for just 34.6 percent of the total population. Meanwhile, the Hispanic or Latino population continued to grow. They are now the most common ethnicity in the city, according t0 the census. The Hispanic population grew by 54.47 percent to 18,345 people. This represents about 42.89 percent of the city's diverse population and follows a nationwide trend. The Hispanic boom accounted for almost half of the overall U.S. population growth, which was the slowest since the Great Depression. The City of Manassas's Black population did not grow or shrink in any significant way, according to census data. The number of Black people in the city grew by just 0.18 percent to 4,914.
