The presence of "smoke" outside of the sewer will let town officials know where there may be a leak or illicit connection in the system that may need to be eliminated. The "smoke" is really a non-staining, non-toxic vapor mist, according to a news release.
Areas that will be smoke tested with approximate dates are:
Mansfield Avenue area: Sept. 2-14Leroy Avenue area: Sept. 8-17Corbin Drive area: Sept. 1-3 All work will be conducted on the sewer system in the roadway or in sewer easements on private property.
Entry into homes is not necessary, however workers may need to enter residents' property to look for "smoke" in or around their home, according to a news release. Workers will attempt to make contact before entering a resident's property and all personnel will carry identification.
