Danbury Hospital Suspends Visitation As COVID-19 Cases Rise

DANBURY, CT —Nuvance Health, which operates Danbury Hospital, announced Wednesday that it has temporarily paused visitation, due to a rise in COVID-19 cases. This includes inpatient, emergency departments, medical practices and ambulatory services. The new policy goes into effect on Thursday, Aug. 19, as both COVID-19 hospitalizations and infection rates have been driven higher by the spread of the more transmissible delta variant. Exceptions apply for patients under 21, maternity and NICU patients, those with disabilities and in end-of-life circumstances. "This is a very important way to limit the risk of possible exposure to COVID-19 to you, your loved ones, and the community," said Stephen Meth, chief experience officer for Nuvance Health. The new policy will also be in effect at Nuvance Health facilities Northern Dutchess Hospital, Vassar Brothers Medical Center, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital, Sharon Hospital and Putnam Hospital. "We know that visitors and loved ones play an essential role as partners in healing and wellness," said Meth. "That's why this visitation policy will be re-evaluated regularly and removed as soon as conditions allow."
