OCEAN CITY, NJ — A father and son duo known for their viral booze reviews on TikTok were recently in Ocean City, but this time to review donuts on the boardwalk. John Rondi Sr. and John Rondi Jr. made their first TikTok video under the name "JohnnyDrinks" last year in February 2020. In the minute-long video, Junior films his father as he casually makes a manhattan cocktail with Frank Sinatra's music playing in the background. The simple video went viral overnight and has been viewed more than 788,000 times. Weeks later when the coronavirus pandemic shut down bars and restaurants, Junior continued to upload videos of his father crafting drinks and reviewing new flavors of spiked seltzers from their home in northern New Jersey. Over 18 months, their TikTok account has amassed one million followers. Their recent videos feature short guides on how to make classic cocktails and banter between the duo as Junior asks his father questions about the cocktails that he makes. The pair was recently filming a video in Ocean City where their family has vacationed for over 20 years. There's no alcohol to be found in the dry town's stores or restaurants. Instead, the duo reviewed fresh, hot donuts sold at iconic shops on the boardwalk. In addition to their fast TikTok videos, they have also been posting longer videos on YouTube and experimenting with food reviews. For their latest endeavor in Ocean City, they were joined by Shaun Latham, a comic who has been featured on Comedy Central and ran a cooking show called "20 Dollar Chef." "We figured it'd be fun to try the best donuts on the OC boardwalk," Junior told Patch, describing their family as "big time fans of OC." In a video chronicling their donut tour, the trio pedaled a surrey bike down the boardwalk stopping at Browns Restaurant, Bob's Grill and Oves Restaurant. In the last segment of the video, they rated their favorite donuts from each restaurant into four categories based on appearance, toppings, dough and overall. Their full video can be found on YouTube. Keep up to date with what's happening in your community by subscribing to your local Patch newsletter here.
