AUSTIN, TX — As coronavirus cases slowly decline across the U.S., Texas is considered to have the slowest recovery rate out of all 50 states, according to a recent ranking by WalletHub. The ranking, which was announced Tuesday, compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across three key dimensions: COVID Health, Leisure and Travel and Economy and Labor Market. The company evaluated those dimensions using 18 relevant metrics. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the highest level of recovery. It then determined the weighted average across all metrics to calculate an overall score for each state and used the resulting scores to rank-order its sample. Officials said rankings were based on data available as of 12:30 p.m. eastern Monday. WalletHub concluded the states that are recovering the quickest are South Dakota, Nebraska, Maine, Iowa, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Connecticut, the District of Colombia (not a state) and Utah. The states that are recovering the slowest are Louisiana, Oklahoma, Alabama, Missouri, Mississippi, Nevada, Texas, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina. WalletHub reports Texas' overall ranking was 39.47 out of 100, making it the seventh slowest state to recover based on its metrics.
