We are seeking an energetic, mechanically minded, problem-solving individual to start immediately. The UST Technician Apprentice will help conduct compliance testing on underground storage tanks (UST) and other equipment at gas stations throughout Western Washington. Duties include, but are not limited to, setting up traffic control, removing 36" manway lids, staging equipment for the UST Technician, cleaning out spill buckets and sumps, conducting minor repairs while on site, cleaning up the job-site, data entry, and much more. With continuous on-the-job training, skill advancement, and certifications, this position will grow into a fully licensed Compliance Tester/UST Technician who will perform tests to include, but are not limited to: Cathodic Protection, Precision Tightness, Vapor Recovery, and Calibration to comply with federal, state, and local regulations. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 18 years of age with a High School diploma or GED, with trade, college or other certification or degree preferred. Candidate must have a general knowledge of computers and their programs, be motivated and task-oriented while working on a team, maintain a clean driving record, and demonstrate a strong work ethic and willingness to learn. The individual must represent the company with the utmost professionalism and integrity. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to frequently carry tools and test equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Kneel, squat or crouch while working on equipment at grade. Access and maneuver inside small/confined spaces. Handling, grasping of hand tools or squeezing of nozzles. Occasionally pull and slide manway lids up to 150 lbs. Push a wheeled fuel-cart up to 250 lbs. Push or pull pipe wrenches up to 36" long. Climb ladders for rooftop access in all types of weather conditions. WORKING CONDITIONS: The working conditions are outdoors. Daily hours vary from morning to night, Monday through Friday, with including some weekends and overnights. To begin, the Apprentice will meet primary UST Technician at each job site or will ride with the UST Technician to the job site from an agreed upon location. After certification, the UST Technician will be assigned a work vehicle. This is a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV), which requires a CDL and periodic DOT drug screening and physical exams. TRAINING: Company will provide Safety training as well as on-the-job training of all position duties. All certifications, testing and training are paid for by the company. LOCATION: Puget Sound Area-Washington. Work locations vary from day to day with many sites located in Tacoma, Auburn, Seattle, Everett, Lynnwood, Kirkland, and throughout Pierce, King and Snohomish counties. The ideal home base for this position is central Puget Sound, ideally within a 15 minute drive of I-5. This position performs testing throughout the entire state of Washington, with periodic travel to the Eastern Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. Corporate headquarters are located in Snohomish, WA, where mandatory training meetings are held several times each year. WAGES & BENEFITS: Pay starts at $22/hr up to $26/hr DOE with licenses or certificates, prior fuel industry experience, etc. As experience is gained through the UST Technician Apprentice Program, technician will advance within the company, based on performance, professional growth, and the acquisition of required certifications. All applicable out-of-town travel expenses are paid by the company including daily per diem. Benefits include medical insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.
