In an 8-week term, students will learn how to start reading, writing, listening to and speaking Irish Irish I is a beginner’s class in the Irish language, Gaeilge. In an 8-week term, students will learn how to start reading, writing, listening to and speaking Irish. Classes will will include songs, poetry, proverbs, phonetics and good old grammar. This class is perfect for beginners or those with some exposure to the Irish language. The required text is Progress in Irish, (approx. $15) available from the teacher at the first class. Deirdre Mc Farland has been studying and teaching Irish for forty years in the Philadelphia area and in the Lehigh Valley. She is a charter member of Daltaí na Gaeilge (students of Irish), a group of Irish language enthusiasts, students and teachers in the midAtlantic region. Deirdre received her fainne oir (circle of gold) a lapel pin denoting a fluent speaker, by examination in 1985. In 2000, Deirdre was awarded Daltaí’s teachers’ scholarship, which sent her to the Donegal Gaeltacht’s Oideas Gael to study.
