Learn skills to write Celtic music
Would you like to develop more skills as a Celtic songwriter? Singer-Songwriter-Musician Fiona Gillespie will teach different standard folk-song formulas and genres, as well as some standard poetic forms and rhyming schemes. Also included in this session how to begin the conceiving of melody, basic accompaniment harmonization concepts, and how to develop the open composition time. Students will be given a chance to share their composition for feedback.
Raised by parents from Lehigh Valley band Blackwater, Fiona Gillespie has been singing and playing traditional Celtic music since she was 5 years old. After completing her undergraduate and graduate degrees in voice, Fiona returned to the east coast and has been performing a variety of folk, original, and early classical music in the area since 2014. She writes regularly for her band, the Chivalrous Crickets, (www.chivalrouscrickets.com). She plays the Irish whistle and flute, and has recently begun playing the Appalachian mountain dulcimer.

Fiona will be accompanied by Paul Holmes Morton, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and member of the Chivalrous Crickets. He will add to the elements of the workshop focusing on harmonization.
