Here are the top stories in Sacramento today: Unhealthy air quality due to the Dixie and Caldor fires is expected to linger in Sacramento County through Thursday. Some areas near Sacramento are ranking among the worst air quality in the world, with the Tahoe Basin ranking at the bottom, worldwide. The air is expected to clear on Friday but until then, stay inside with your air conditioners set to recirculate. (ABC10 & ABC10)A man who was shot while driving his car in South Sacramento on Monday night has died. Police responded to the scene after a man driving his car was shot by a man driving another car at the intersection of Elsie Avenue and Stockton Boulevard. The victim was treated at the scene and transferred to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. No information about the suspect or victim is available. (CBS Sacramento)A Sacramento man has been charged with attempted murder after attacking another incarcerated individual at the Sacramento County Jail. Colton Miles was originally arrested for vandalism of a Target trash compactor and possession of methamphetamine, but while waiting in a holding tank he viciously attacked another man that had been placed in that holding tank. Judge James E. McFetridge decided that there is sufficient evidence for all charges, including attempted first degree murder, and felony vandalism, to go to jury trial. "I don't know how the guy survived that (attack), but Mr. Miles (you are) very, very fortunate…Thank God." the judge concluded. (The Davis Vanguard)The Sacramento City Council approved $5 million in loans to develop affordable housing at 4995 Stockton Boulevard Tuesday afternoon. Sacramento District 6 Councilman Eric Guerra said the planned site will have 198 affordable units and is part of a long-term strategy to provide workforce housing and address homelessness in the city. The housing will be located where a vacant lot now stands and help revitalize that part of the community.
