Description

NASHUA, NH — Homes in and around Broad and Bailey streets are being evacuated due to a gas main being struck. The gas line is a "high pressure" main. Nashua fire and rescue teams have two water supplies established, according to posts on Twitter. According to WMUR-TV, the main was struck by a construction crew. According to Jeffrey Hastings, who is at the scene, two lines were struck during the incident. A 6-inch line on Broad Street and a 2-inch line on Bailey Street were struck. The gas could be heard leaking from pipes in and around the construction site. Firefighters will meter the gas lines before residents return to their homes. They are investigating a valve issue at the construction site as a possible cause of the issue. The lines, according to firefighters, were frozen requiring Liberty Utilities to cut the lines to access and fix the leaks. The company will need to build a shutoff valve to fix the leak, too. Nashua NH Patch will update this post when more information becomes available. Got a news tip? Send it to [email protected].
