Drive-Through Event In Norristown To Offer Free Naloxone

NORRISTOWN, PA — Citing an increase in overdoses during the isolation of the pandemic, officials in Montgomery County will be distributing naloxone, the opioid reversal drug, for free at an upcoming drive-through event. The event will take place at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit on Aug. 31, from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., to coincide with International Overdose Awareness Day. The Unit is on 2 West Lafayette Street in Norristown. "We want to continue to reduce the stigma and raise awareness about overdose treatment and resources," Montgomery County Commissioner Val Arkoosh said in a statement. "NARCAN is an effective harm reduction tool that allows individuals to avoid the fatal effects of overdoses." Naloxone is a nasal spray that can save the life of an individual who has overdosed on heroin, fentanyl, or another opioid. If you cannot attend the drive-through event, kits can also be ordered online here through the Montgomery County Office of Public Health.
