HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt. INCIDENTS BIKE THEFTSomeone stole a black Cannondale hybrid bicycle valued at about $400 that had been locked to the rack at the train station at 1700 St Johns Avenue a some point prior to 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 10. CAR BURGLARYSomeone stole a some loose change and a wallet from inside an unlocked Subaru parked in the 2200 block of Skokie Valley Road between 9 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. on Aug. 11. The wallet contained identification, cash and a credit card that was canceled before anyone used it. PACKAGE THEFTSomeone stole a package that had been delivered to a home in the 400 block of Pleasant Avenue between 2 and 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 11. CRIMINAL DAMAGESomeone spray-painted words in red, green, gold and black one of the pillars of the Deerfield Road overpass above Old Skokie Road and on the bike path. Multiple spray paint cans were found in the area on the evening of Aug. 11. SHOPLIFTINGSomeone stole three cartons of Marlboro cigarettes from the Mobil at 1333 Half Day Road valued at about $275 before tax prior to about 11 a.m. on Aug. 14. He left the scene in a brown, four-door sedan headed north on Skokie Valley Road. ARRESTS/CITATIONS A 28-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 16 and charged with driving with an expired or no valid drivers license and speeding more than 35 mph above the speed limit following a traffic stop in the area of Skokie Valley and Half Day roads. He was also issued citations for illegal transportation of alcohol and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Edgar M. Contreras-Campos, 26, of the 1600 block of 50th Street in Kenosha, Wisconsin, was arrested shortly after midnight on Aug. 12 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater and driving with a suspended or revoked driver's license following a traffic stop at Park Avenue West and Skokie Valley Road. He was also issued citations for speeding, improper lane usage and illegal transportation of alcohol. Diante T. Johnson, 24, of the 8100 block of South Harper Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 4:30 a.m. on Aug. 12 and charged with DUI–alcohol and speeding 35 mph or more above the speed limit following a traffic stop at Park Avenue West and Skokie Valley Road.
