THE SHOW: Old Town Theatre Company is casting for their newest production, “The Turn of the Screw,” an adaptation by Jeffrey Hatcher of Henry James’s classic novella. The story has seen several new treatments lately, including Netflix’s "The Haunting of Bly Manor." This edition of the story, masterfully written for just two actors, explores the unnamed governess’s relationship to the people and places around her. Tragedy has brushed its wings across the landscape of Bly Manor, and our governess seeks to protect her dear charges Flora and Miles from further trauma. But what exactly is the threat? Are the ghosts of their former governess, Miss Jessel, and her lover, groundskeeper Peter Quint, coming back from beyond the grave? Or is our present governess driven mad by circumstances beyond her control? These questions are present in nearly all adaptations of “The Turn of the Screw.” It is Old Town Theatre Company’s goal to add another question to the list: Our governess is either in the throes of supernatural peril, or losing her mind--so why does no one help her? Seeking actors for the following roles: The Woman: 20s-30s. Plays the Governess. The Man: 20s-50s. Plays Uncle, Mrs. Grose, Miles, and all others.
