CHARLOTTE, NC — Garth Brooks' long-awaited upcoming stadium show planned in Charlotte, which had already been rescheduled for next month, is now canceled, the country music star announced Wednesday. The show had been originally planned at Bank of America Stadium for April 10 and was later rescheduled for Sept. 25, 2021. "In July, I sincerely thought the pandemic was falling behind us," Brooks said in a statement Wednesday. "Now, watching this new wave, I realize we are still in the fight and I must do my part. I have asked the wonderful cities of Cincinnati and Charlotte to wait too long and I don't want to now do that same thing to the great folks in Boston and Baltimore. As far as Nashville, we are looking for a make up date from the July rain out and though this is not COVID related, to make them wait makes me sad, as well. So, it is with a heavy heart we announce the decision to cancel all 5 shows but with a hopeful heart, we will reschedule and start over when this wave seems to be behind us." Shows affected by the cancellation announcement include: Sept. 18, Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati, Ohio Sept. 25, Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte Oct. 2, M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore, Maryland Oct 9, Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts Unscheduled date, Nissan Stadium, Nashville, Tennessee "I'm sincerely hoping we are back on tour before the year's end," Brooks said. Brooks sold out 74,000 tickets for the stadium show in about 90 minutes. "It's the largest paid crowd in the history of Bank of America Stadium," concert organizers said. "This will be the only North Carolina and South Carolina stop on The Stadium Tour." The Charlotte show will mark the first time Brooks has performed in Charlotte in more than 20 years.
