Awarding a bid to Metal Roofing Solutions, of Duncanville, for the construction of a new building on 35th Street for the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office to move its patrol service from its current location at the airport. The low bid came in at $1.2 million and is expected to take 210 days to complete. Site work on the project was approved in May, to the tune of $150,000. A bid from SaveMore Commercial Laundry Equipment in the amount of $74,880.63 for new laundry equipment in the Tuscaloosa County Jail. Tuscaloosa County Maintenance Superintendent Ryan Sabbagh said SaveMore was the only vendor out of four who responded to the bid. He went on to say the new equipment will include a lint filter system and fire suppression system for the dryer. The timetable to receive the new equipment and have it installed will be 6-8 weeks. Once received, the county will only be responsible for setting up the water lines for the washers, with SaveMore handling the rest of the installation.Donating an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to Northside High School Athletics for its school sports and youth sports. District 1 Commissioner Stan Acker said the AED was considered surplus for the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office after a large cache of the devices was purchased by the county with federal aids funds from the CARES Act. The life-saving devices have proven useful in rural communities like Samantha. Approved $2,000 in District 2 discretionary funds at the request of Commissioner Jerry Tingle to be given to Brookwood High School's agriculture teacher for an anti-littering program.
