BESSEMER, AL — The City of Bessemer will now require masks inside all municipal buildings. The Bessemer City Council approved the requirement Tuesday night. The measure is in place through October 5, according to the ordinance. The Bessemer City Council voted on Tuesday to make the wearing of masks or face coverings a requirement for all municipal facilities through October 5. Mayor Kenneth Gulley has urged Bessemer residents to remain vigilant as COVID cases have increased recently in the state.— City of Bessemer, AL (@bessemer_al) August 18, 2021 The City of Birmingham approved a similar order in July, and The University of Alabama at Birmingham announced that masks will be required indoors throughout its campus as well. Jefferson County's 7-day average for new daily COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday was 528. Just a month ago the county's 7-day average was at 71.
