Pet adopters beware!

South Glens Falls NY

Description

There are a number of ads on Craigslist for pets right now requiring respondents to send them their email address and phone number, which is a great way to infect your phone or computer with malware. Right now (8/18/21) there are at least 3 ads in the "Community-pets" and "For Sale - cats and kittens" advertising Maine Coon, Ragdoll and other high interest breeds where sellers are demanding your email address and phone number before they will send pictures or give out information. Perhaps they are doing this with dog breeds too. Also beware of people who appear to be scooping up long-hair kittens for free or cheap and reselling them for large amounts of money with no proof of breed, vaccinations, spay or neutering. You can get a pure bred Siberian for $600, with all shots, spay and neutering included. Why give these scammers $900 - $1500 for a mixed breed rescue pet who has had none of those services at all? Supposedly there is some woman out there trying to adopt all the long haired kittens for the purpose of reselling them for large amounts of money. The scammers appear to be operating out of western Massachusetts and Utica, NY. Don't give out your personal contact information if you encounter a seller who refuses to give you information unless you go outside the Craigslist communication system and BE SURE TO FLAG THEM so they will be removed. Don't be fooled. Photos can be easily transmitted via the Craigslist email system.
