Flamingo Automotive is Hiring! Flamingo Automotive is a unique shop with a great team and great customers. What makes Flamingo Automotive Unique? 1. Our culture of inclusivity, respect, integrity and transparency. Flamingo Automotive was founded in 1989 by Joe Lamping. Prior to opening Flamingo Automotive Joe worked at several other local auto shops. Joe was ahead of his time in recognizing a problem in the industry; the auto repair industry had a culture that made women, LGBTQ and others feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or taken advantage of. We would call this cultural dynamic “toxic masculinity” now, but at the time it was hardly in the public consciousness. Joe realized that there needed to be an auto shop that made all feel comfortable and welcome by cultivating a culture of respect, inclusivity and fun for all comers. He also realized the importance of integrity and transparency, which is why we often take the extra time to show and explain repairs to our customers who often don’t fully understand why the repairs were necessary. The shop’s pink color and pink mascot were (and continue to be) a bold way of stating that we’re different. These ideas have been baked into our company culture and as a result we’ve had the great privilege of building what we consider to be the best, most loyal and most diverse customer base in Austin. 2. We specialize in German and Japanese vehicles. By specializing in German and Japanese vehicles, we are able to achieve a high level of expertise and perform top quality repairs. Our expertise puts us in the unique position to be able to compete with dealerships and smaller shops alike. Narrowing our focus also allows our employees to gain a greater depth of understanding of each car, improve efficiency through repetition, and minimize errors in parts ordering and repairs. 3. We’re a teaching shop. At Flamingo Automotive we believe that it’s important to participate in teaching the next generation of aspiring auto-repair professionals. As such, we often allow young people who are interested in the industry but lack experience to come work with us and learn the trade hands-on. We’re proud to say that over the years many young men and women have come through Flamingo and learned skills that have allowed them to provide for themselves while pursuing their passions for auto repair, modification, customization, and/or customer service. 4. Car enthusiasts trust us with their cars. You probably wouldn’t take your Nissan GTR, Porsche GT-4 or Lotus Evora to Jiffy Lube, but because of our ties to the racing community and our reputation for quality and attention to detail we have the opportunity to work on cars like these on a regular basis. Working on these cars is a lot of fun, but with it comes the responsibility to provide the highest quality of service possible when we do. Many of the nice cars we work on are track cars. The track demands top performance, safety and reliability. We’re committed to making sure that these cars are ready for demands of the track before they leave the shop.
