AIER's Bastiat Society program in Washington, D.C. will host an in-person event with Dr. Richard Salsman, Assistant Professor of Political Economy at Duke University and Senior Fellow at the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER). American officials have radically abridged civil and economic liberties in recent years, but it is only part of an intensifying hostility toward capitalism this century. Capitalism has become a scapegoat for a range of personal grievances and societal ills. Not long ago, during the last two decades of the last century, the trend was toward capitalism. The U.S.S.R. collapsed, the Cold War ended peacefully, and freer systems (U.S. and U.K.) were victorious. Yet “intellectuals” denounced “neo-liberalism” and revived anti-capitalist dogmas and policies (Marxism, Keynesianism protectionism, nationalism, post-modernism, racism). What explains this odd trend shift? Who were the pro-capitalist champions of neoliberalism? Where have they gone? If they have heirs, why have they been so quiet? Dr. Salsman answers these important questions. His key theme: capitalism requires a moral defense, not merely an economic one. Eventbrite registration is required to attend. The admission fee is $15 (only $5 for full-time students). Cash payments at the door are not accepted. _______________________ Schedule: 5:30 PM - 6:15 PM: Networking Reception 6:15 PM - 7:00 PM: Speaker Presentation 7:00 PM - 7:30 PM: Q&A Discussion ** Optional dinner & drinks to follow ______________________ More about the speaker: Richard M.
