To the Shakers, fruit-bearing trees represented the unspoiled loveliness of the Garden of Eden. It was painted at Hitchcock Shaker Village in 1854. Brief History of The ALFRED SHAKER VILLLAGE:The Alfred Shaker Village was established in 1793 and continued to be active until 1931. ALFRED SHAKER MUSEUM:MISSION STATEMENT: Our mission is to preserve the 1875 Alfred Shaker Carriage House and to maintain therein a museum in which to exhibit Shaker articles, offer educational opportunities and collect and conserve Shaker materials.
