Women on Waves panel, book signing, then Sandy's Band live show Join us to celebrate the release of Jim Kempton's new book Women on Waves, A Cultural History of Surfing: From Ancient Goddesses and Hawaiian Queens to Malibu Movie Stars and Millennial Champions. At 5pm, enjoy a panel discussion between Jim, big wave surfer Bianca Valenti, and WithItGirls Marialidia Marcotuli and Asha McGee. A book signing will follow. At 6pm Sandy's Band will play giant sized harmonies and resonating echoed guitar work that sounds like it was filtered through a glorious, sunny ’70s filter. Sometimes straight up breezy California surf rock, other times venturing into more hazy psych-pop, imagine if The Beach Boys recorded Pet Sounds again after listening to the Polyvinyl back catalog and you get some idea of where this is rooted.
