Description
In this class you'll learn the fundamentals of cutting into endgrain. All materals are included, and you'll even take home your own box. Topics covered include: Safety (important!)Endgrain toolsorder of operations conceptsWoodturning TechniquesOur maximum class size is 4 people, so you will get lots of 1 on 1 instruction. This is a safe and welcoming place for anyone to learn -- including women, people of color, or gender-nonconforming folks. NOTES: Please wear close-toed shoes and remove any dangling jewelry or clothing items (like hoodie strings) before joining class. Safety first! A water bottle will also be helpful to stay hydrated (there's filtered water and ice available). FAQsWhat is the location like? The woodshop is inside a larger fabrication shop. It is a functioning, grungy, non-fancypants makerspace full of working people. Expect to get dirty, see people getting dirty, and experience dirt and grime. Bathroom included. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? Driving: There is ample and free street parking on 19th Street Please don't leave valuables visible and lock your vehicle. Public Transportation: The nearest BART station is the West Oakland station. We can't offer a ride from BART, but you can grab a cab or rideshare service from the station. It's just a 3 minute drive from Coliseum BART to NIMBY. Rideshare: Cabs, Lyft or Uber can easily find NIMBY using the street address. NIMBY is at the end of Amelia Street. How can I contact the organizer with any questions? The Lower 48 is the brainchild of Jolie Karno, a skilled woodturner and accomplished instructor at Techshop in San Francisco and The Crucible in Oakland. She loves teaching, and has introduced scores of people to fine woodworking.
