Oakes for a fun, info-packed, painting experience. Let’s walk through this artist’s techniques for painting lush trees and luminous shadows with bold, bright colors. Or use your own preferred palette of colors. Learn to take an ordinary image and transform it into an extraordinary, finished piece. Valuable art principles and important acrylic painting techniques will be discussed while we work through and complete a finished piece. This workshop will help experienced artists grow and beginners be inspired. All painting styles and skill levels are welcome. Also open to oil and pastel painters. • Composition, color, value, techniques • Give your painting depth & perspective • Specific techniques for Trees & Shadows • Structured but light and fun About the Instructor: Joe Oakes has been a curious and observant person since he was a child. He is fascinated by the natural world and how it can be represented through drawing and painting. He holds a BA in Fine Arts and has worked as a graphic designer. A cancer diagnosis and the loss of his son in 2009 motivated his return to fine art and strengthened his resolve to make a career for himself as a full-time artist. He now teaches painting classes and workshops in a variety of media. He exhibits regionally in SoCal as well as nationally. The beauty of the mountains of the Inland Empire are often the inspirations for his wonderful and colorful paintings. Materials List for Capturing Shadows Paint: Palette of Heavy Body Paint Colors to include Titanium White, Cadmium Yellow Medium, Hansa Yellow Light, Red Rose Deep, Alizarin Crimson, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Teal, Payne’s Gray, and Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide (for underpainting). Instructor recommends M. Graham, Holbein, Sennelier or Da Vinci, but students are welcome to use the brand of their choice. If you already have an established palette within which you prefer to work, you are welcome to employ that. Canvas: Stretched canvas of the best quality you can afford as they will have heavier weight canvas and sturdier frames or Ampersand Aquaboard or Gessoboard products in an 11x14 format or larger. Brushes: Instructor recommends natural bristle long-handled Trekell or Princeton Flat brushes in sizes #12 or #10, #8 or #6 natural bristle Filberts, and #4 synthetic Round. Additional Items: Freezer Paper or 9x12 Palette Pad Tabletop Easel Water Misting Bottle Palette Knife Water Container (not glass) Vine Charcoal Paper Towels Questions?
